Founded in 1986, the Cancer Institute of Long Island remains one of the premier solo medical oncology private practices on Long Island. The practice is committed to providing each of our patients with an exceptional level of care and attention in the setting of a new modern private facility. Dr. Gerstein takes pride in paying close attention to each patient's needs and tailoring therapy to each patient's individualized needs, utilizing a full array of chemotherapy, hormone therapy, immunotherapy, nutritional and vitamin therapy, localized hyperthermia and killer T-cell enhancement therapy.
The practice is proud to continue to be completely physician owned and operated. We have resisted the trend toward merging practices with hospital and for-profit businesses because we understand the need for personal and consistent care. Each patient is treated like a member of our family. Our compassionate, professional staff is dedicated to providing the highest level of care possible. Because we are physician owned, we are patient driven. This means that we can focus more on providing excellent care, and less on the bottom line. We are not tied to any large medical corporation and we are not hospital-owned. We provide up-to-date and effective care that is responsive to you and your needs only.
This practice specializes in treating cancers of the breast, lung, gastrointestinal tract (including esophageal, gastric, pancreatic, liver, gallbladder, small and large intestine, rectum and anus) as well as lymphomas, multiple myeloma, chronic leukemias and other diseases of the bone marrow such as chronic anemias, red and white blood cell problems and platelet abnormalities. Non-malignant autoimmune disorders relating to the blood cells are treated as well. A particular interest is in neuroendocrine tumors of the gi tract and pancreas.
We offer consultative services, chemotherapy, hormone therapy and immune therapy as well as localized hyperthermia and nutritional programs. Selected alternative and complementary medicine approaches, such as high dose vitamin drips, mineral infusions, and killer T-cell enhancement (immuno-oncology techniques) therapy may be incorporated into a patient's treatment program. We also work closely with our patients' primary care physicians.
The Cancer Institute of Long Island is conveniently located in the Lake Success Business Park on Community Drive in Great Neck, opposite the main campus of the North Shore University Hospital.
